Obama And Biden: Powerful On Abortion

advertisement

Obama dodges question about when life deserves protection again, lying by suggesting that the question was of theology rather than legality:

"And so, all I meant to communicate was that I don't presume to be able to answer these kinds of theological questions," [Obama] said in an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

Then Joe Biden answered the question in a way that begs the follow-up: Is abortion murder, Joe?

"I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment," Biden said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society."

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This is the worst. Biden, a sitting Senator, has just declared that life begins at conception and then clarified that it be taken at whim with no government protection - and he doesn't indicate if at any time during the pregnancy, this would change.

There's something inappropriate all right, but it's not what you think it is, Joe...

Then we follow-up this position with Obama: okay, your vp says that life begins at conception: when is it deserving of government protection? (psst, this is not a theology question!)

Otto, Biden doesn't have to "impose" the belief that life begins at conception on  people who are "equally...more devout". They already believe it if they are "Equally or more devout". It's the people who are less devout that require enlightenment. Biden's no real catholic if he doesn't defend life. He's a degenerate just like Obama, who voted against the ban on partial abortion, protection for survivors of botched abortions in Illinois and the US Senate "born alive" bill. If we elect Obama we may be electing the anti christ. Note: Did you know that we used to have a talk show host in Buffalo,NY whose name was John Otto? His show was on WGR Radio and was called "extension 55".

Obama himself said that one of the first things he would do in office (indicating that this is very important to him personally) is to remove the ban on partial-birth abortions in all cases. Of course, Obama also doesn't want to extend protection to babies born alive after a failed abortion, so this really shoudn't be a surprise.

Obama's plans are barbaric and heinous in this regard. The US Constitution protects "Life, liberty and the pusuit of happiness for ourselves and our posterity". Posterity means children. "Unborn children for Mc Cain/Palin." Biden should be ashamed of himself. You can't be catholic and pro-choice.

'For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society."

Biden is a moral relativist. He can say this and, to liberals, he sounds fairly intelligent. If you take it a step further, however, what then? Very devout Muslims, for instance, believe in stoning adulterers, hanging gays and chopping off the hands of thieves. There are also many cases of honor killings-- where the families kill the daughters they believed have shamed them.

So, does Biden's pseudo-intellectual statement stand? He doesn't want to impose judgment on those that are even more devout than him in a pluralistic society?

The truth is, he's not open-minded, he's spineless.

If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.

And I just thought of this:

If you stand for everything, you will be torn asunder.

Ultimately, don't all laws impose judgement on people? I think murder is wrong, Chuck Manson didn't. I think eating people is wrong, Jeffery Dahmer didn't. I think racism is wrong, Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood (as part of her "Negro Project") didn't.

I could go on all day. If abortion is wrong, then it should be illegal. If abortion is wrong, but we won't make laws against it, how can we have laws against other things that are wrong? Why haven't serial killers stood up and demanded their right to make a private decision about killing other people?

But what do I know, I am a Conservative Christian, and, apparently, part of the problem.

I just found this. VERY scary reading. Don't stop until you reach the end, even if you start feeling sick.

Great insight from both of you here. My first thought was - how do we govern without judgment and what is the disconnect between personal beliefs and public authority and if the combination is irrelevant or even contradictory, then why even campaign? It's completely pointless to care what a candidate thinks on anything so long as their idea of decision-making is simply done in the least morally-challenging way.

John Kerry tried this in 2004 - he's a Catholic so he's anti-abortion but he's a Senator so he's pro-abortion. For and against...

dandemacy - this is why we have embedded generations arguing passionately about whether abortion is even wrong or not. Somehow, it's become common thinking to suggest that ending a life is a 'right' in a good and compassionate society and the very essence of liberty. Some even label themselves as pro-life-pro-choice even though they spend all of their time arguing against the pro-life position.

I honestly don't know how anyone that favours partial birth abortion can sleep at night. It's the most henious of all procedures every composed to be enacted on another human that as the title suggests, is half born. There is no case for this procedure to be legal: if you can half give birth to the child in order to crack its skull and suck its brains out, you might as well just deliver the child and let a loving couple adopt the child.

It beggers belief the procedure is even up for debate.

Yes, completely meaningless procedure in the context of necessity. It is unfortunate that this is barely even considered radical anymore, to the point where a major presidential candidate can support it.

Such a difficult topic, Otto.

It is too bad that the truth of this issue is lost on so many.

There are so many levels of one's life that is affected by this choice.

It's a unique topic. What amazes me is that we as a society take seriously the notion that an abortion is only about the mother, it's not about the father, it's certainly not about the life that hangs in the balance. I think the abortion issue more than any other demonstrates the sickness that has consumed these last few generations, that has created an America that our older grandparents would never have believed possible.

It is absolutely astonishing.

We are reaping the sown seed of the libertine indoctrination. This is but one item in the bulk of evidence, albeit the worst.

But what can we expect when "traditional family" is deemed hate speech, and sex panels tell our children, multiple partners are good, group sex is fun, drugs enhance sex, and condoms detract from the experience.

As long as we tell them anything goes, then responsibility is the last thing they'll worry about.

I agree, not only is a baby dead, the mother is harmed, a father is denied, grandparents cheated. A sorry state no matter the 'reason.'

Are you a member of Voices for the Unborn, Otto?

The "unborn for Mc Cain/Palin",2008. Dandemacy,Thanks for the link to the Sanger story. She sounds like a female Hitler. Pure and simple Abortion is wrong. Biden, who says he is catholic should advocate his catholic ideals or he is not really "catholic'. I would think the reason why people vote for a catholic is because they want them to install into morals compromised society, ideals of the catholic faith. It seems all of us are on the same wavelength here,to date.Hippoocrates, father of medicine, said thousands of years ago, that he would not give a pessary to a woman to produce abortion. It was part of the Hippocratic oath for many ,many years. I understand that was deleted. Disgraceful.
