Come to the dark side…we have cookies!
I think I first saw this amusing reference years ago on an infant’s t-shirt. While amusing as it is this phrase represents the essence of the Democratic Party. If ever they did, Democrats no longer represent self-reliance, individualism or personal choice (the closest they come to championing choice is in narrow, social issues that baffle most reasonable and clear-thinking Americans). Democrat’s near-official party platform today is to buy votes rather than sell a message. Come to the Democratic Party…we have free [fill in the blank].
Among the numerous problems with the Treats for Votes program is that Democrats force all Americans to fund it, whether those Americans oppose it economically or philosophically – even if those Americans haven’t been born yet. This is the equivalent of McDonald’s giving out free meals to its customers by pick-pocketing the customers in a Burger King parking lot. Or union members being forced to pay fees that fund political endeavors they oppose.
We hear time and time again that spending cuts alone won’t solve the fiscal problems we’ve developed over the decades (and exasperated over the last few years). I beg to differ. There is a fundamental debate between the left and the right on the benefits of tax cuts vs. tax increases. There is no debate on the fiscal benefits of less spending. If the government spends less…then the government is spending less.
Democrats have a natural fear of accountability. They work to move more and more programs and responsibilities away from families, homes, communities, localities, counties, cities and states and absorb them into the bureaucratic behemoth that is our federal government. This makes sense. It’s easier to get power when you can buy votes. It’s easier to buy votes when there is no accountability. Democrats can spend this nation into an economic sewer on disastrous and backward programs but then blame Republicans for every problem the country finds itself in because the political machine is so massive that it’s impossible to connect the dots in a way that doesn’t make people’s heads hurt (Democrat-induced migraines, by the way, are not covered by ObamaCare).
And the Democratic Party solution to the problems caused when Republicans don’t stand down quietly in the face of Democratic power grabs via tax payer funds? More freebies, more programs, more accusations, more hand wringing and more complaints all designed to justify spending more money to buy more votes to keep Republicans from scaling back the previous rounds of Treats for Votes. It’s a sick, self-feeding cycle that is infecting the country at an alarming rate. Democrats support a country where the inmates run the asylum after manipulating their victims to put them in charge. Democrats encourage poverty by destroying incentives to work, maintaining a near monopoly on institutionalized propaganda (academia; the mainstream media) and decimating the concept of the traditional family. The latter is why they support free-for-all abortion (while simultaneously promoting/defending every act of promiscuity that they can get away with), why they make a mockery of marriage and why they champion single-motherhood: they prey on the weak and the broken, the aimless and the dependent. Traditional marriages, moms and dads, financial security…these lead to stability, economic freedom and stable generations to come - all threats to Democratic power. And in their world, anyone - even you! - can be a victim of freedom and choice and find comfort in the soul sucking embrace of Democrat’s big government.
For years Democrats carefully tried to take credit for the wildly successful 1996 welfare-to-work reform that was begrudgingly signed by Bill Clinton. For wanting so hard to take credit for this popular program, the Democratic left was suddenly silent when the Obama administration essentially removed the core framework from the reform. It’s almost as if the Obama administrations philosophy is “If it ain’t broke, break it!”
Why was it important for Obama to do this now? The same reason it was vital for him to expand amnesty, push government health care over job creation and fight against reasonable voter ID laws: the further purchasing of votes and consolidation of power. These guys don’t even try and hide it anymore. They can’t sell a message so they instead buy votes. Even Obama understands that he'll never get reelected based on his political record. People with jobs will vote with their convictions; unemployed people with free health care will vote for Democrats.
After three years of destructive policies and failed government, Obama’s campaign platform has morphed into an open assault on entrepreneurs. At least now it’s finally out in the open and goes hand-in-hand with the Left's class envy: tax the rich because otherwise the rich might put people to work, which gets people off the teat, which reduces assurances that they will vote Democrat.
Small business owners are expected to give kudos to the federal government for their success but failures have to be directed to George Bush, Republicans, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News…virtually anywhere but at the feet of Obama and Democrats. Since Obama can’t rightfully blame Mitt Romney for the countries problems, he instead sees to it that Romney is painted as a felon, a tax cheat, a killer and a future enslaver (and that was just last week on the campaign trail!) – and Romney’s biggest victims will be the very victims that Democrats work feverishly to create, buy off, create more of and buy off again, or as I like to call them, the Democratic Party's base. In other words, don’t worry about what your president is doing now. Worry instead about what the guy who’s not president may do later.
President Romney would have to try with gut-wrenching effort, sincerity and prayer to worsen the direction the country is heading in.
There is no end to what Democrats sell; no bottom to their attempts at wholesale electoral purchases. It always feels like there is a bottom and Democrat mouthpieces will provide rhetoric that suggests that any implications of further destruction on their parts is ludicrous. And a few years down the road they are using the same rhetoric to champion the very destruction that they once called ludicrous.
Democrats are beholden to victims and victims are beholden to Democrats. It’s a scary dynamic when those numbers and that power grow. Democrats would sell the Constitution on eBay if it ensured them power (not used much recently - was once living and breathing, but died myseriously). As I read somewhere (and I can’t recall where), Democrats would rather be in total power in a United States with third world status than lose power in a United States that rises and succeeds.
Democrats are corrupt; Democrats in power are corrupt absolutely.
